报告题目:Biomaterials for Bone Repair and Regeneration
报告摘要:Tissue engineering is a rapidly growing new emerging interdisciplinary field, which offers tremendous promises for organ repair and regeneration. The development of skeletal tissues has become the fastest developing segment of tissue engineering due to the large demand in bone repair materials. In this talk, we will reveal a novel approach for fabrication of biomimetic apatite/collagen composite scaffolds mimicking the organic and inorganic constructions of natural bone. This approach not only renders the scaffold with biomimetic structure, but also superior mechanical properties and excellent in vitro and in vivo performances for bone tissue engineering.
Besides, I will also touch base on a novel biomimetic coating developed in our laboratory.Over 10 million Americans are currently carrying at least one major implanted medical device in their body.More than forty percent involves the use of metallic implants.Unfortunately, nearly all metallic materials are bioinert, so they are consequently not osteoconductive leading to no surface continuity. Thus, the objective of this part of the presentation will talk about the exploration of a new biomimetic approach to fabricate bioactive apatite and apatite/collagen coatings on the surface of metallic implants to improve the corrosion resistance and biocompatibility of the metallic implants.
