报告题目:Hybrid Nanostructures: The Next Hot Research Area in Permanent-Magnet Materials

Hybrid nanomaterials comprising two or more functional components have recently attracted extensive attention in the academic community and are emerging as hot research topic in many fields, owing to their enhanced or novel multifunctional properties.1,2 However, hybrid nanostructures that make strong permanent magnets are difficult to devise because it is challenging to precisely control 3D complex structures at the nanoscale, especially for aligning nanocrystals.3 More recently, we have made a breakthrough in designing 3D hybrid nanostructure in a controllable manner.4-6 The resulting bulk nanostructures that consist of hard and soft-magnetic crystals exhibit an unprecedented high energy product for this class of hybrid materials with high fractions (> 20 wt%) of soft-magnetic phase and outperform, for the first time, their corresponding pure permanent magnet. These findings open up new opportunities for creating high-performance permanent-magnet materials. In this talk, I will present and discuss the perspective, prospects, and problems of hybrid nanostructured permanent-magnetic materials.
